About

A Chelmsford company planning audiovisual production for broadcast studios and live events since 2014.

Our story

A small team focused on how production actually runs

showvary began in Chelmsford in 2014, when Oliver Hartley started designing broadcast studios. The company has grown into a small group covering studio design, lighting, audio and workflow, with a steady habit of writing down what we learn.

The company began with studio layouts: where cameras stand, how cables run, and how a room feels when a crew has been in it for ten hours. That early focus on practical detail still shapes how we plan every space. We prefer drawings that an operator can read and question over documents that only look impressive at the first meeting.

As requests widened, we brought in specialists for lighting, live and studio audio, and production workflow. Each came from the same observation: problems in one part of a production usually trace back to decisions made in another. Working as one team lets us raise those links early rather than discovering them during a live broadcast.

We publish practical guides on streamlined workflows, lighting and audio because the same questions keep reaching us. Writing them forces us to explain our reasoning plainly. Clients benefit twice: the advice we give is checked against what we are willing to put in print, and your team can read the thinking later.

We take on work we can explain and support. If a project needs skills outside our five areas, we say so rather than stretch. That keeps proposals honest, keeps conversations about scope direct, and means the people you speak to at the start are the ones who plan the work.

What this means for you as a client

Our principles only matter if they change what happens on your project. Here is how the way we work shows up in the conversations, documents and handovers you will see from us.

  1. One team across disciplines

Studio design, lighting, audio and workflow sit within the same company, so a change in one area is considered against the others before it reaches you, rather than appearing as a late complication.

  2. Plans written in plain language

Proposals and drawings are written so producers and operators can read them without a glossary. If a term is needed, we explain it, and we are glad to be asked about anything unclear.

  3. Support that leaves knowledge behind

We aim to leave your crew able to run and adjust what we plan. Handover notes record how things are set up and why, so the work does not depend on us being in the room.

  4. Honest limits on scope

We tell you early what we can do and what we cannot, and we describe what would change a quotation. This keeps expectations realistic and avoids awkward conversations once work is under way.

Principles

The ideas that shape every recommendation we make

Production work is full of small decisions made under pressure. A few steady principles help us make them well, and they explain why our plans, drawings and conversations look the way they do.

  1. Clarity

Clarity means a producer, a technician and a studio manager can all read the same plan and understand it. We label drawings carefully, avoid jargon where a plain word works, and explain why a choice was made so that it can be reconsidered later without confusion.

  2. Reliability

Reliability shows in the details nobody applauds: cable routes that stay tidy, settings that are written down, handover notes that match what was built. We would rather recommend a simpler arrangement that holds up across a full day than an elaborate one that needs constant attention.

  3. Craft

Craft is the care taken over small things, such as where a microphone stand sits, how a lighting angle falls on a presenter, or how a signal path is labelled. We take time to get these right and to explain them, because that care is visible in the finished production.
